Behind the scenes tour

  • availabilty: every Thursday at 12.30pm, or last Saturday of each month at 1.30pm
    Meet in the foyer.

A building tour offered once a week on Thursdays, and once on the last Saturday of each month.

Take a tour where you might meet Charlie, the robotic book trolley, visit enormous Stacks where the books are stored, and learn about strange curiousities in the Library's collection that have been acquired over more than a century of collecting.

Exhibition tour

  • for: everyone
  • availabilty: between 10am and 4pm weekdays
  • bookings: a minimum of two weeks notice for group bookings is required.
  • cost: free
  • duration: 60 minutes

The Library's exhibition gallery is staffed by volunteers who are available to answer your questions. Our Library volunteer guides also conduct tours of our current exhibitions by appointment.

Vivid Tour of the Photographic Collection

  • availabilty: each Monday at 11am, during the Vivid Festival
    • 7, 14, 21 & 28 July
    • 4, 11, 18, & 25 August
    • 1, 8, 15, 22 &29 September

Tour with a Pictures Branch curator through some of the 700,000 historic photographs. The collection includes rare nineteenth century daguerreotypes, albumen prints, photograph albums and exhibition prints – the beautiful, the weird and the wonderful.
