RDA: next generation cataloguing standard
Powerhouse Museum, Sydney
Friday 24th October, 2008
Invitation from Ebe Kartus, Chair, Australian Committee on Cataloguing
On behalf of the Australian Committee on Cataloguing (ACOC) I am pleased to invite you to the forthcoming ACOC seminar "RDA : next generation cataloguing standard". This full-day seminar will be ACOC's main professional development event for 2008 and will be of interest to all librarians, especially cataloguers and metadata creators. This is the sixth annual ACOC seminar and it follows several very successful seminars held in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
The seminar will be held on the day after the Libraries Australia Users’ Forum and I hope that those of you who will be in Sydney for the Forum will consider staying on to attend the seminar.
Program summary
Resource Description and Access (RDA), which will be released in 2009, will change the face of catalogues and cataloguing. It signals the start of a new era in metadata creation and use, and has the potential to place library resources at the centre of the semantic web.
This seminar aims to answer your questions about RDA and its implementation in Australia. The history and development of RDA will be discussed, especially the impact of the conceptual models FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) and FRAD (Functional Requirements for Authority Data) on the new standard. It will also highlight the relationships to, and differences from, AACR.
The seminar will feature a keynote address by Deirdre Kiorgaard, Chair, Joint Steering Committee for the Development of RDA. Other speakers will discuss various aspects of RDA and its implementation. View program details
