Teleconference 15 August 2000
The Australian Committee on Cataloguing (ACOC) held a teleconference on Tuesday 15th August 2000 with the purpose of providing a final briefing for Ann Huthwaite, the Australian representative on the Joint Steering Committee for the Revision of AACR, before the JSC meeting in London in September.
Taking part were Peter Haddad (NLA rep), Helen Hoffmann (ALIA rep), Ann Huthwaite (co-opted ALIA rep), Deirdre Kiorgaard (NLA rep standing in for Pam Dunlop), Sue Moir (ALIA rep), Chris Taylor (ALIA rep) and Julia Trainor (NLA rep).
Two topics were selected for briefing, the proposals for the revision of cartographic materials, and the proposal for revising "the rule of three".
A draft of the ACOC response to the revision of Chapter 3 was discussed and a number of changes made. Some editorial and stylistic changes were also noted. These will be revised at the National Library and forwarded to Ann.
Discussion also took place on the proposal that ACOC has undertaken to write for JSC on making the "rule of three" an option, allowing the cataloguer to make additional access points if desired. The proposal was written as two options, one allowing for minimal revision to the rules, the other for substantial changes. The committee also discussed Sue Moirs idea that the rules be re-written allowing unlimited access points, and making the "rule of three" an option. It was agreed that this could be presented to JSC as a third possible course of action.
Finally, the Committee discussed Ann Huthwaites term as Australian representative on the Joint Steering Committee for the Revision of AACR and endorsed her appointment for a further three years from 15.8.00.
