Communication Plan
The draft Communication Plan 2004-2005 was discussed. A summary of the main points follows.
School libraries. ACOC agreed it would be good to have a relationship with school libraries but probably not practical. It was noted that ACOC has had some contact with the Schools Catalogue Information Service (SCIS) in the past. ACOC agreed that SCIS would be mentioned in the Plan as an organisation with which ACOC will build a relationship.
Kinetica Cataloguing Special Interest Groups (SIGs). ACOC agreed that any reports written for Gateways or Incite would also be sent to SIG chairpersons. It was also noted that the Kinetica CJK group would be the logical group for ACOC to contact in the case of CJK issues.
Target markets. ACOC agreed that the needs of the primary target market of Australian cataloguers should be addressed before moving to the secondary markets of metadata creators and library managers. ACOC agreed however that they wished to position themselves as the body to consult regarding metadata in the library community.
Standards Australia IT19 Committee. Information about the IT19 Committee will be provided to ACOC members so that possible involved can be considered at a later date.
Key messages: "Australian librarians must influence library suppliers " ACOC resolved that two new strategies would be added to the Communication Plan as follows: actively target invitations to vendors for the annual seminars; and to consider an annual vendor briefing session to raise vendor awareness of standards issues.
ACOC Brochure
It was reported that the designer should have a couple of logos ready to look at soon and the brochure should be completed in a few weeks.
Training and seminars
ACOC agreed to monitor possibilities for co-branding of training with ALIA.
ACOC agreed to try to incorporate two suggestions from Kinetica Annual User Meeting attendees for the Authority Seminar: firstly, a practical component to the seminar, which may be possible to organise through a university in the venue city; and secondly a "meet the Committee" opportunity.
Current awareness proposal
ACOC endorsed a suggestion to post information about updates to standards to relevant email discussion lists. It was seen as a worthwhile current awareness activity that would also raise ACOC's profile.
4JSC/ALA/59
ALA's proposal relates to things that came up during the process of reissuing Cartographic Materials. CCC's response made a few small suggestions, and LC agreed. ACOC also agreed with the CCC response.
Authority seminar
Seminar organisation details were discussed. ACOC agreed to name the seminar What's in a name? The role of authorities in the 21st century. A summary paragraph about the seminar will be provided to Information Online 2005 this week for inclusion in their brochure as a satellite event.
ACOC website
Julie Whiting informed ACOC that she would work on a mock-up for the new website once a logo has been designed. It was agreed that the mock-up would be prepared by the end of October.
