Discussion on the Revision of AACR3 Part 1

Deirdre incorporated the discussion into the ACOC response to: 5JSC/LC/1/Rev & 5JSC/AACR3/1/Editor follow-up/1 (due 13 June, 2005).

ACOC Seminar

The timing of the next ACOC Seminar was discussed.  It was agreed that, preferably, the Seminar should be held in conjunction with the ALIA Biennial Conference in Perth 2006.  ACOC is keen to host events outside of the East Coast.  Ebe will approach the ALIA Board of Directors for approval.  Failing this, then an independent seminar at the time of the Kinetica Annual Users Meeting will be considered.

The current theme for the Seminar is concerned with Webpacs.  Martha Yee will be invited to be keynote speaker.  It was also agreed that the Seminar should not be dominated by being “system specific”.  An RDA update should finish the day.

The suggestions for promotion of specific topics included: provision of access to special collections data or ways of searching via Webpacs; delivery of FRBR, topic maps and contextual displays via Webpacs; Rights management & webpacs; Listings of e-resources on library websites vs. webpac delivery; Is there still a role for the MARC record? Role of Links & URLs; Catalogue enrichment; and associated user/feasibility studies.

A number of administrative items were also considered (incl. the call for papers & associated matters).  An email advertising the Seminar will be composed.
