5JSC/RDA/Part A/Categorization
The proposal was considered to align fairly well with the RDA/ONIX Framework for Resource Categorization. However, it was felt that the proposal lacked comprehensiveness in 3.3 Type of Carrier.
The Committee discussed the desirability of making 3.3 Type of Carrier compatible with 3.4 Extent. The suggestion was made to separate the number of items in 3.4 Extent from the name of the resource. This would permit the merging of Extent and Type of Carrier.
The Committee discussed if 3.2 Media Category would be needed if 3.3 Type of Carrier is more specific. However, if 3.2 is retained, it was suggested that it should be optional, while 3.3 and 4.2 should be required elements.
The issue of mixed media items was discussed. It was suggested that the Alternative (3.2.0.2.4, 3.3.0.2.4, 4.2.0.2.4) to record only the predominant type should be dropped.
Concern was expressed about the recording of DVDs, serials, and numerical or mathematical data.
Several Committee members indicated that the proposal was difficult to visualise without examples. It was suggested that examples should be added before the redrafted Chapter 3 is released.
5JSC/LC/5/REV Revised internationalization proposal
The Committee was generally supportive of the proposal. However, it is unclear if the proposed revision of 2.9.0.3 paragraphs a)-c) should be connected by ‘and/or’ or ‘or’.
The Committee believes the proposed revision of 3.5.0.4 would work against the principles of both internationalisation and standardisation.
The Committee thought the proposed revisions of 7.9.5.1 and 7.9.5.4 seemed logical. However, ACOC was unable to comment on the potential effect on legal citation practice.
5JSC/ALA/3 Specialist cataloguing manuals
Some ACOC members would prefer that all references to other standards and manuals of interpretation, except for the ISBDs should be recorded outside RDA in a moderated wiki.
5JSC/LC/7 and 5JSC/CILIP/4 Breton & Irish initial articles
ACOC accepts the proposals on Breton initial articles and Irish initial articles.
5JSC/LC/9/REV Video format characteristics
ACOC accepts LCs proposed revision on video format characteristics.
