Book a date at the National Library
9 February 2009
Discover the National Library’s ‘true romance section’ at Literary Lovers: Speed Dating for Book Lovers, on Friday 20 February.
Anyone can try speed dating, but only the National Library can offer it, literarily speaking, with such style.
Daters are invited to bring their favourite book to act as an ice-breaker and prevent any awkward pauses in conversation. They will enjoy a complimentary glass of wine on entry while jazz trio As Famous as the Moon provides some smooth tunes.
Events Manager at the National Library Heidi Pritchard says the event is not just for singles.
“It’s for people who want to meet like-minded folk and discuss the pleasures of books,” she said. “If we get one romance out of this, it will all have been worthwhile”.
“Gone are the days when all you can say is shoosh in the library, now we’re actively encouraging canoodling”, Ms Pritchard said.
And as to her advice for the evening? “Although we’re told not to judge a book by its cover, I think one can judge people by the books they read.’’
