A Brilliant Touch
A Brilliant Touch: Adam Forster’s Wildflower Paintings by Christobel Mattingley is the latest in the acclaimed Portfolio series published by the National Library of Australia.
In her 50th book, Mattingley tells the story of Adam Forster, who began life as Carl Ludwig August Wiarda in Germany. He migrated to Australia in 1891 and changed his name to Adam Forster.
Forster was appointed Registrar of the Pharmaceutical Board in Sydney – but his real passion was the flora of his adopted country. In this new National Library of Australia publication, Christobel Mattingley looks at the man and his remarkable art – a man whose goal was to paint 1000 Australian wildflowers.
