Asian Treasures: gems of the written word

Asian Treasures: Gems of the Written Word, by Andrew Gosling, showcases the rich collection that is the National Library of Australia’s Asian collection. Gosling, who worked at the National Library for 30 years, writes about more than 40 Asian treasures, from works of art and calligraphy to texts of historical and religious significance. One of the most precious items is the Library’s oldest publication, an Indian Sanskrit text translated in 1162 by a Chinese monk entitled, The Greater Sutra of the Perfection of Transcendent Wisdom.
