Australian Backyard Explorer

Australian Backyard Explorer, written by Peter Macinnisand published by the National Library of Australia, is the winner of the 2010 Australian Children’s Book Council’s Information Book of the Year.

The book, which won the coveted Eve Pownall Award, tells the story of the famous and not-so-famous heroes who explored the Australian continent in the first 120 years of European settlement. It includes little known explorers as well as the old favourites, including James Cook, Edward John Eyre, Robert O’Hara Burke and William John Wills. The book is  beautifully illustrated with images from the National Library of Australia’s Pictures Collection.
Peter Macinnis is a Sydney-based science writer whose 2006 book, Kokoda Track: 101 Days, was listed for the NSW Premier’s History Awards in 2007.
