The Dunera Boys:
Seventy Years On

A special collection-in-focus display, marking the 70th anniversary of the arrival in Australia of a group of internees known as the Dunera Boys, has opened at the National Library of Australia.

In September 1940, HMT Dunera arrived in Australia, carrying more than 2500 German and Austrian internees. Many of them had escaped the horrors of Nazi Germany only to be interned as enemy aliens in camps in Britain and rural Australia.

This exhibition tells the story of the Dunera Boys, through their letters, their art and their music, with most of these items drawn from the National Library’s collection, including oral histories.
