Lewin: Wild Art

Lewin: Wild Art is more than just the story of Australia’s first non-convict artist, George William Lewin. It is the story of Australia’s early life and times, as depicted by Lewin, of the wild, unknown colony – and how the other side of the world looked to a 30-year-old London illustrator in 1799.

Curated by the State Library of NSW in conjunction with the National Library of Australia, Wild Art draws largely on the collections of both institutions and also includes treasures from the British Library.  It features more than 150 precious works of art, including watercolours, oil paintings, hand-coloured etchings, lithographs, manuscripts and watercolours.
