Citation of Unpublished Material
- To cite a collection of personal papers, use the form:
- Papers of [Collection Name], National Library of Australia, MS [Collection No.]
- To cite a collection of organisational papers, use the form:
- Records of [Collection Name], National Library of Australia, MS [Collection No.]
- An example of the preferred style is given below:
- Papers of Sir John Monash, National Library of Australia, MS 1884
- To cite an item from a manuscript collection, use the following form:
- [Manuscript Item], [Collection Name] Papers, National Library of Australia, MS [Collection No.]/[Series No.]/[Item No.]
- For example, an item from a manuscript collection arranged in series and items could be cited as:
- John Gavan Duffy to Deakin, 24 September 1903, Deakin Papers, National Library of Australia, MS 1540/15/7
- A second reference to the same item, suitably abbreviated, could read:
- NLA MS 1540/15/7
- An item from a manuscript collection arranged in series and folders could be cited as:
- Minute Book, Australian National Research Council Records, National Library of Australia, MS 482A/1/Folders 4-5
- An abbreviated reference to the same item:
- NLA MS 482A/1/Folders 4-5
