Scope and Content

The collection broadly comprises Caucus minutes 1906-1989; correspondence book 1909-1917; minute books, Labor Senators' Party meetings 1915, 1916; an attendance roll for Federal Labor members at Caucus meetings, 1914-1938; Caucus committee files; Caucus general correspondence; agendas, resolutions, circulars, contacts, submissions, reports, committee lists, and other papers. The files include Federal Executive 1956-1965; Select Committee on Voting Rights for Aborigines, 1960-1965; Federal conferences 1961 and 1966; Legal documents on Portuguese ship-jumping in Darwin, 1962; Richardson report on Parliamentary salaries 1948-1959; and files on notices of motions.

The collection is restricted.

Provenance

The collection was donated to the Library by the Australian Labor Party in 1982. Additions were made to the collection in December 1991 (boxes 14-18) and March 1996 (box 19-39).

The Caucus minutes, which were received with a consignment of ALP Federal Secretariat records ( MS 4985) in 1978, were transferred to MS 6852 in 1983 and 2002.
