The Library acquired the papers and some publications and maps of Sir Randal Heymanson
by bequest in 1985.
Two cartons of maps and travel brochures were directed to the Map Section. Issues of Vital
news were incorporated into the Library's printed collection. This was a confidential newsletter
edited by Sir Randal Heymanson and Roy Lewis and published in the United States, July 1939 - December 1941. It
was circulated amongst government policy makers and bankers in Britain and the U.S.
A quantity of printed matter and booksellers' catalogues, having no significance by association
with Sir Randal, was directed to Australian and Overseas Selection.
Under the terms of Sir Randal's bequest, Griffith University received the bulk of his private
library (some 20 000 volumes).
Victoria's National Gallery received for its art reference library more than 25,000 volumes of
works on western and oriental art, the history of costume and fashion and the art of the book.
The University of Melbourne, of which Sir Randal was a graduate, received a significant
provision of funds to establish and maintain the Sir Randal Heymanson Foundation to support
research efforts into the study of pain.
Sir Randal did not assign
copyright therefore the Library assumed ownership of copyright in writings by Sir Randal along
with the bequest.
