Report 1978.03.20
From: Assist Sec & Gen Secretary QTU
To: Executive Queensland Teachers Union
"Appointment of Unemployed Teachers Co-ordinator. Mr Weir was eventually
recommended by the committee because he was the person who had done most of the
initial work on a voluntary basis and because of his valuable experience in working
to set up the Unemployed Workers Union for the QTLC (Queensland Trades and Labor
Council). It was the opinion of the committee that Mr Weir was the better qualified
person for the job. On Friday the General Secretary informed me that he could see no
reason not to employ him for the job... I accordingly told Mr Weir he had the job. On
Monday 20 March the General Secretary informed me that he had had discussion about
Mr Weir's appointment with various people within the union. As a result of these
discussions he believed he could no longer employ Mr Weir.... Recommendations 1.
That the QTU clarify its position on political victimisation" (a bitter blow gw)
