Progress

New Content added to beta service

Processing and delivery of newspaper pages has now re-commenced and 51,000 pages were added into the beta service in May 2009. New pages will be progressively added each month to the beta service. As at 11 June 2009 4.3 million articles are now available and full-text searchable.

Improvement of Digital Content by Users

Australian Newspapers Beta users have corrected over 3.4 million lines of electronic text in over 150,000 articles. Over 70,000 tags have been added to articles and many comments about information in articles added. This is fantastic community activity which is improving the content for everyone.

1.95 million pages scanned

Inclusion in Google News Archive

Articles from the beta service have now been harvested and are available from the Google News Archive Search.

Inclusion in prototype Single Search Service

Australian Newspapers beta has been integrated into the Library's Single Search Service prototype model which is available to the public and open for feedback. You can search across mulitple resources in mulitple formats from one interface.

Digitisation of The Sydney Morning Herald

The Sydney Morning Herald 1831-1954 has now been digitised and is awaiting OCR processing. There are 600,000 pages containing approximately 6 million articles to be processed in 2009 - 2010, which will be made available progressively.
