Australian Newspapers Beta Search was released to the public on 25 July 2008.

Standalone service - Australian Newspapers beta: http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au/
Single Search Service Prototype (SBDS) with newspapers integrated : http://sbdsproto.nla.gov.au/
Those newspaper users that are searching only - your search results for newspapers will be the same in both beta and the SBDS prototype. For those newspaper users that are performing OCR correction, tagging or adding comments you are able to do these functions in either place and the changes will be applied in the single database. There is no difference in Australian newspaper functionality in either place. Both services are using the same single database behind the scenes. The big difference is that if you are interested in obtaining information from other resources, not just newspapers e.g. pictures, books, maps then the SBDS prototype will enable this. It has integrated access to over 42 million metadata and text resources from a range of the National Library's collaborative services and from elsewhere. Included in this version are the following data sources: the Australian National Bibliographic Database, Australian Newspapers beta, Picture Australia, the ARROW Discovery Service, PANDORA, OAIster, Open Library, the Hathi Trust, the Internet Archive and the Library of Congress tables of contents, publishers' descriptions and sample book chapters.
A feedback form is available at the bottom of each page of the SBDS prototype.
