Director-General of the National Library Anne-Marie Schwirtlich has welcomed the 50,000th visitor to the Treasures Gallery which opened only four months ago.

Three friends from Wangaratta, Faye Dreher, Eunice Cardwell and Marj Hoysted visited on 2 February, with Faye recorded as No. 50,001, according to the Library's visitor tracking system.

Ms Schwirtlich presented them with special gifts to mark the occasion while Director of Exhibitions Nat Williams gave them an exclusive  tour of the gallery.

The Treasures Gallery, which is open daily from 10am to 5pm, features many of the Library's prized objects, including James Cook's Endeavour Journal and the papers of Edward Koiki Mabo.

Entry is free.
