Climate history project
8 February 2011
The National Library needs your help in an Australian-first project designed to help save the planet.
Working with the University of Melbourne, the Library is involved in the Climate History Research Project which is seeking to reconstruct Australia’s climate history from European settlement to 1900.
Users of the National Library’s Trove newspaper data base are now invited to search for and tag articles relating to the level of water in Canberra’s iconic Lake George.
Lake George is seen as a natural rain gauge in the environment so tagging articles from early newspapers about when it was affected by flood or drought will help researchers not only piece together our early climate history but also look at whether such patterns still exist today.
You can help if you are a regular Trove user or are new to the National Library’s exciting new discovery service.
