New Director-General appointed
10 February 2011
Federal Arts Minister Simon Crean has announced the appointment of Ms Anne-Marie Schwirtlich as the new Director-General of the National Library of Australia.
‘The role of the National Library as a leader in the online cultural environment has never been more important,’ Mr Crean said.
‘Ms Schwirtlich has the right credentials to lead this key national institution at an important time in its history as we fully embrace the digital age.’
Ms Schwirtlich comes to the National Library in Canberra after eight years as Chief Executive Officer at the State Library of Victoria.
Ms Schwirtlich began her career in the Australian Public Service in 1978, including posts at the Australian War Memorial and the National Archives of Australia. It was while she was at the Archives in 1998 that she was seconded to the National Library for six months.
The new Director-General will take up her appointment in March.
