Membership of the Working Group

The Working Group on High Priority Cross Sectoral Projects consists of the following members:

  • Eric Wainwright, Convenor, representing the National Library of Australia;
  • Robyn Collins, State Library of Tasmania, representing Australian Council of Libraries and Information Services (ACLIS);
  • Fran Awcock, State Library of South Australia, representing Council of Australian State Libraries (CASL); and
  • Janine Schmidt, University of Queensland, who joined the Working Group in May 1995, representing the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL).

Funding

In accordance with Resolution RM1, passed at the TF2001 Review Meeting in December 1993, viz:

That the Working Group on High Priority Cross Sectoral Projects remain in existence as long as it remains successful in raising project funds; that the Working Group be encouraged to seek further funds during 1994 ...

the Working Group wrote to the Australian Council of Libraries and Information Services (ACLIS), Council of Australian State Libraries (CASL), Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) and the National Library of Australia in early 1995 requesting support for new and existing projects. A pleasing response to this request has resulted in a fund of around $A80,000 available to support new projects into 1996. The following organisations are included in contributors to the fund:

Projects

Projects which have been supported by the Working Group during 1994/95 fall into three categories:

Completed Projects:

  • Provision of analytical access on the NBD to titles included in the Pre-1890 Australian Children's Books Microfiche Package.
  • National survey of the overall state of national bibliographic access (including indexing and listing in directories) [pictorial format]
  • Commencement of indexing of literary contents of the Bulletin, 1921-1987
  • Bibliography of Australian Literary Projects

Continuing Projects

  • Study of in-house indexes to Australian newspapers and journals
  • Directory of oral history and folklore collections in Australia
  • Microfilming of index to the Argus

New Projects

  • Cataloguing of 19th century Australian serials in the Dictionary catalogue of the National Library of Australia onto the Australian Bibliographic Network (ABN).
  • Indexing of literary periodicals for AUSTLIT
  • Development of guidelines for the management of material in electronic format
  • Publication of an Aboriginal thesaurus
  • Survey of thesaurus usage in Australian libraries.
