Enhanced electronic access for readers

In August 1999 there will be changes to how electronic resources (the catalogue, indexes, databases and the Internet) are accessed by onsite and offsite users.

Most of the existing catalogue terminals will be replaced with personal computers. This will enable the Library to bring together existing electronic resources and new information sources in one Web menu. Those resources include:

  • The Library catalogue—a new web version
  • Other libraries’ catalogues
  • Guides to the collections, both Web and printed
  • Indexes and databases to journals, newspapers etc (mainly for onsite users as licenses are restricted to the Library building)
  • Guides and directories to reference collections—our own and those on the Web
  • Internet resources to guide access to the Web.

These changes are part of a broader revamp of the Library’s Web site to enable more effective linking to the many resources within the site from the reference and information services Web page.
