The National Library's Collection Development Policy is
now out in a handy hardcopy format.
Built up over 98 years and comprising around five million items,
the Librarys collections are seen by many as its finest
achievement. They include print publications, maps, pictorial
material, manuscripts, oral history recordings, microforms,
electronic publications and other forms of material.
Outlining the subject areas, special formats, collecting levels
and collecting intentions of the Library, the Collection
Development Policy explains how the Library strives to meet its
obligation to maintain its collections as part of Australias
cultural heritage. It provides a background to the collecting of
both Australian and overseas materials.
The policy is intended to inform the Australian community and
other Australian libraries, as well as serving to guide National
Library staff members involved in selecting the many and varied
materials for the collection.
Published by the National Library of Australia, the Collection
Development Policy is available at a cost of $20 from Sales
and Distribution, National Library of Australia, Canberra, ACT
2600.
