Finding what you want
Our oral history holdings are being progressively added to our Oral History & Folklore Catalogue which provides access by subject, name or project. However, it will be some time before this task is completed so it may be necessary to consult staff in the Petherick Reading Room.
Accessing the Oral History Collection
To access items in the collection you will need to complete an eCallslip. Items will be delivered to the Petherick Reading Room where you may listen to tape recordings or view transcripts (where available).
Access to the collection is subject to conditions imposed by interviewees and informants with a collection delivery service running Monday-Friday. In most cases access for research is available. However, in some cases material will be restricted for long periods, and in others you may be required to obtain written permission from the interviewee. For most of the collection an access copy has been made, or can be, if requested.
Photocopying services are available in the Petherick Reading Room.
You may reserve oral history material for use in the Petherick Reading Room on Monday to Thursday evenings, and on weekends. You will need to submit request forms no later than 4 pm on Mondays to Fridays.
Borrowing a recording from us
We do not lend items to individuals but you may borrow unrestricted oral history tapes and transcripts through the interlibrary loan system operating in your local library. These copies must be returned to the Library after use.
Purchase of tapes and transcripts
Subject to conditions, copies of some oral history tapes and transcripts are available for purchase via the Copies Direct service.
