[Australia's Oral History Collections: A National Collection]

What can I include in the Directory?

The Directory provides comprehensive and easy access to information about oral history collections in Australia. Users of the Directory can conveniently locate collections of interest by the name of the collection or by the name of the institution or individual responsible for the collection. They can search the Directory to locate collections on a particular topic or within a particular geographic area, or within a range of recording dates.

The Directory is useful only if it contains up-to-date information. Collection details may be updated online, or by contacting the National Library who will update an entry for those without Internet access.

New collections can be added to the Directory at any time.

To provide easy and helpful access to information about your collection the following information may be included in your entry.

  • the name of your collection;
  • the name of your institution or the individual responsible for the collection;
  • the URLs (Uniform Resource Locators) of the collection and of the collection owner;
  • contact officer details (ie name, position, e-mail address, phone, fax and TTY numbers);
  • street and postal addresses;
  • purpose of the collection (why it has been collected);
  • status of the collection (is it complete or still being added to?);
  • size of the collection (hours or number of recordings in the collection);
  • supporting documentation (transcripts, summaries, synopsis or logs);
  • places covered in the collection, Australian and overseas;
  • languages spoken in the collection;
  • dates of the oldest/newest recordings;
  • subjects covered;
  • strengths of a collection or notable holdings;
