Bilateral Flows Between UK And Australian Students In Higher Education

David Wilden, Cassandra Cameron

Abstract

This report presents statistics on higher education student movements between Australia and the UK up to 2010, and examines these in the context of each country’s international student population. The available data suggests that, despite the shared history and enduring economic, cultural and people-to-people links the two countries enjoy, the bilateral student flows are very small relative to each country’s overall student intake. The relationship is best described as one of quality over quantity, characterised by high achievement rates. As data collection methods improve and source data continues to grow, a richer picture will emerge of the bilateral tertiary student movements between Australia and the UK.
