Networking in Vietnam

Tien Dao

Abstract

In March this year I went to Hanoi to assist staff at the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) to install a local area computer network and to train them in the use of basic Internet services. This was my second consultancy visit to Vietnam-both visits were undertaken as a team member of the Vietnam Internet Project (VIP). VIP was initiated by the Coombs Computing Unit of the Australian National University (ANU), with funding by the Department of Employment, Education and Training.

During the month I spent in Hanoi I had the opportunity to meet the NLV's Board of Directors as well as most of its key staff to discuss information technology (IT) and Internet services at the NLV in particular, and in Vietnam in general.
