What Makes Libraries Relevant in the 21st Century? Measuring digital collections from three perspectives

Abstract
Digital collections are a fundamental part of all libraries in the 21 st century. While the fields of library science and information science have approached digital libraries differently, the concept of a digital collection core to theories in both. To assess the value of digital collections in a discipline three perspectives are proposed – that of the information seeker, the library and the publication/information environment. The paper proposes a series of indicators to develop digital footprints in these three perspectives which can be used to assess the relevance of libraries and their digital collections.
