Publications

To find Australian government publications you may need to consult a range of sources:

  1. Govpubs: the Australian Government Publications Guide, is a guide to selected types of Australian government publications, such as Acts, Hansards, Gazettes and Parliamentary Papers, located in Australia's National, State and Territory libraries or available on the Internet.
  2. The National Library of Australia's Catalogue lists the majority of Australian government publications, both print and online.
  3. The Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) hosts a Publications Register which provides an A-Z listing of Australian government agency publication home pages.
  4. Libraries participating in the Library Deposit and Free Issues Scheme hold many Australian government publications.
  5. If you have access to it, the Australian National Bibliographic Database available through Kinetica: Australia's Library Network contains a comprehensive record of Australian government publications, including data from the former Australian Government Index to Publications (AGIP) database.
  6. The National Library's Recent Australian Publications service provides a monthly list of new Australian publications, derived from Kinetica.

The Official List of Government Publications, which was derived from the AGIP database, ceased with the list of 19 May - 1 June 2001. From that date the responsibility for recording information on the existence of Commonwealth Government Publications moved from the Department of Finance and Administration to the National Library of Australia.

The Australian Government Bookshop Network ceased operations on 17 October 2003. The most appropriate source of information about purchasing Australian government publications is now AGIMO's Publications Register, which lists the publication contacts for each government agency and also indicates whether the agency has an online bookshop.
