General
These are general sites for researching Australian literature on the Internet and provide a starting place for researchers in this field. They provide a diverse range of information on Australian literature resources as well as providing links to other useful sites.
Legal Deposit in Australia. Information on the requirements for the legal deposit of publications in Australian libraries.
- AustLit: the resource for Australian literature provides authoritative information on creative and critical works of Australian literature and on more than 75,000 Australian authors and literary organisations. Much of the information is available only on a subscription basis, however there is a free Author Browse service which allows all web users to access information on about 3,000 authors. Included is information on indigenous writers, children's literature, literary awards and drama.
- Culture and Recreation Portal: cultureandrecreation.gov.au. A Commonwealth government website providing literature links, essays, featured writers and genres, etc.
- Books - ABC Arts contains links to the various discussions occurring on the ABC, including to Australia Talks Books.
Manuscripts and archives
Much Australian literary material can be found through searching manuscript and archival catalogues. Major gateways providing access to this information include:

Full text resources

- Australian Literary and Historical Texts. A collection of digitised full text 19th and early 20th century Australian literary, historical and political works from the University of Sydney.
- Project Gutenberg Australian library: etexts by Australian authors, about Australia and works of interest to Australians.
- Classic Australian Works. Provides on demand access to full text classic Australian works that are out-of-print but mostly still in copyright.
