Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There are two types of electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) - those that are born digital and those that are scanned versions of paper originals. The former may have multimedia components such as audio or video or utilise some other digital component such as virtual reality.

CFP : Call For Preservation! : Results and discussion of a survey on the preservation of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

- The first part of this paper discusses the results of a survey of 16 institutions regarding practices for the long term preservation of ETDs (electronic theses and dissertations). Data migration, preservation policies, electronic file backup and workflows are some of the areas surveyed. The second part of the paper discusses the file formats, particularly PDF and PDF/A. Areas requiring further investigation are also discussed.

e-Diss.ch : Collecting and Archiving Online Theses at the Swiss National Library

- This paper given at ETD 2007 (Uppsala Sweden 13-16 June 2007) describes e-Diss.ch which is a project undertaken at the Swiss National Library in collaboration with the Swiss university libraries as part of the e-Helvetica project to archive all Swiss online theses. The paper describes the digital archive, the approach chosen for collecting, cataloguing and disseminating the online theses and collaboration with university libraries.

- The mission of the SVEP Project was the coordination of academic electronic publishing in Sweden. It was a two year project, from 2003 to September 2005.The project was funded and coordinated by the Swedish Royal Library´s Department for National Co-ordination and Development, BIBSAM, and involved collaboration between nine Swedish university and university college libraries and the National Library of Sweden. It involved five work packages, one of which is long-term access and preservation. This work package provided recommendations on metadata supporting long term preservation, storage formats and the development and implementation of a preservation infrastructure. Most of the information is in Swedish although several documents are available in English.
