- This Digital Preservation Europe (DPE) briefing paper introduces Software Independent Archiving of Relational Databases (SIARD) which has been developed by the Swiss Federal Archives, and is an XML format which permits long-term preservation of the relational databases content, metadata and relations in an ISO content format.

- This paper was presented at SAC’08 (March 16-20,
2008, Fortaleza, Cear´a, Brazil). It describes the development of languages and tools and the concept and features of the eXtensible Characterisation Languages (XCL) and their application to the evaluation of digital preservation solutions. These languages support the automatic validation of document conversions and the evaluation of migration quality by hierarchically decomposing a document and representing documents from different sources in an abstract XML language

- This one year project led by the UK Data Archive at the University of Essex aimed to "develop, refine and test models for data exchange for both survey data and qualitiative research data based on XML/RDF schema and will develop tools for data import and export." Data formats included are SPSS, STATA, XML, Atlas-ti, MaxQDA and Nvivo. The project final report was issued in April 2008.
