- Rights Management System Project
- The National Library of Australia (NLA) is developing a Rights Management System (RMS) to assist staff in managing copyright and access information for the digital and physical collections. While the system is being developed primarily for use by staff at this stage, the Library recognised that some aspects could be used to inform users about the use of the collections, and facilitate more efficient document access, ordering and delivery. Until mid July 2009, a Copyright Status Calculator is being trialled in the NLA catalogue. The calculator uses a set of rules based on Australian copyright law and metadata from the catalogue record, to determine whether a work is in copyright.
Paper: ‘Development of a Rights Management System for the National Library of Australia's Collections’ by S. Henderson & M. Walker, given at VALA 2008, 5-7 February 2008, Melbourne.
