PIC 3403 / 1 Les Darcy (James Leslie Darcy, 1896-1917 - boxer).
PIC 3403 / 2 Darcy didn't die of a broken heart. Neither was he poisoned. This copy of a death certificate provided by the health authorities in Tennessee show the real cause of death.
PIC 3403 / 3 This picture, hitherto unpublished, was taken when Darcy was about eighteen. There is nothing that indicates in this good natured pose, the fighting power that made him one of the greatest middleweight boxers that ever donned gloves.

Catalina services from Perth to Ceylon did not begin until July 1943, and the Ceylon to Karachi service was begun in November, 1943.

PIC 3403 / 24 Residents in the district near Newcastle gaol, W.A, have provided many interesting links with Toodyay's pioneering past. The costume was the type of dress worn by settlers almost a hundred years ago (photograph also depicts a spinning wheel).
PIC 3403 / 25 Newcastle gaol, W.A, has now been turned into a museum. Black and yellow convict garb and black uniforms worn by the guards are displayed to tourists.

PIC 3403 / 81 Joe Drage flying a DH62 Gypsy Moth (1967), built in 1929 and bearing the serial number VH-ULM. It is thought to have once been flown by the Australian pioneer aviator Charles Ulm. Australian Museum for Active Aircraft at Wodonga, in northern Victoria, it is called Drage's Aircraft Museum, yet every exhibit, be it of wood and cloth, or an early all-metal model, it is registered to fly. Some of the aircraft are nearly 50 years old, but they carry their years well. They have not been modified and have their original engines, kept fine-tuned, to purr like a kitten or roar like a lion as required. The bodywork and instruments are just as they came from the factory. There has been no fancy paint work added, just touches of the original colours, when needed. Joe Drage, who owns the museum, learned to fly in 1954. He flies the 17 aircraft in his museum, of widely different types and vintages and is licensed to fly 19 other types.

PIC 3403 / 98 VARIABLE WING FIGHTER - The new F-11 supersonic tactical fighter is shown to the public at recent rollout ceremonies in Fort Worth, Texas. Under development for the U.S. Air Force and Navy, the craft has moveable wings, kept in forward position (as shown) for take-offs and landings, and in swept position for high speed, high altitude flight. The plane is designed to land on short runways at speeds slower than conventional fighters.
PIC 3403 / 99 F-111 MOVABLE-WING FIGHTER - Drawing of the F-111 two-man tactical fighter, under development for the U.S. air Force and Navy. The supersonic craft has moveable wings, kept in forward position for take-offs and landings, and in swept position for high speed, high altitude flight. It is designed to land on short runways at speeds slower than conventional fighters. First flights are expected in 1965.
PIC 3403 / 100 The Aussie airman of the future will emerge after three years training, with a Bachelor of Science degree and thoroughly trained in the intricate skills needed to keep a Mirage or the F111 in the air as an effective fighting machine. Part of the continuation training after graduation will come in the form of regular sessions on the ejection seat simulator so that all aircrew will be familiar with emergency procedures.
PIC 3403 / 101 The technician in the modern R.A.A.F is a highly skilled individual. L.A.C. Stephenson of Liverpool N.S.W and Corporal Denning of Wentworthville N.S.W had several months training in the United Kingdom in the construction and operation of aircraft simulators. This Hercules simulator will be used to convert Aussie pilots to flying the Giant Herk, as well as providing continuation training for qualified Hercules pilots.
