KEY ISSUES

Access to documentary information resources at a national level

The Library, in collaboration with key stakeholders such as the Australian Libraries Collections Task Force and the Council of Australian State Libraries, has continued to work towards its goal of facilitating access for all Australians to information resources. In particular, the following advances were made:

Access at a national level to key electronic information resources has been provided through the development of a purchasing consortium managed by the Library and covering all State and some public libraries
a major program to make digital images of many of the Library's unique Australian materials available via its web site was commenced to meet the increasing expectation that information is available online. Several projects have been undertaken to determine the best way to deliver this information to users. As part of this developmental work digital images of the papers of Australia's first Prime Minister, Edmund Barton, and the diary of the explorer, William John Wills, have been successfully made.
