Agreement
Between the Australian National University and the National Library
of Australia, 1961
- The National Library would in general vacate the
field of collecting business records and would support the
Australian National University in its
collecting.
- For the time being the Australian National University would in
general confine its collecting to the field of business records - that is, the
records of employer and employee organisations and of business firms.
- After the Australian National University collectors had processed
their documents and had completed the necessary research, and when the National
Library has secured its new accommodation, the Australian National University
would hand on the material to the National Library for permanent storage in its
own custody or appropriate dispersal elsewhere, subject to the wishes of the
owners or donors of any material.
- Both organisations were prepared to issue a joint letter to the
Trade Unions saying that collecting could be resumed, but although it was also
felt that any official statement should await the results of a conference of
Federal and State bodies to be held at an early date.
- The Australian National University would correspondingly support
the National Library in its collecting in all other fields.
