Training in Preservation Microfilming |
The National Library of Australia, in collaboration with the State Library of South Australia and under the auspices of IFLA PAC, has produced a set of preservation microfilming training material consisting of 10 modules, 6 wall charts, a logbook, a learning guide, a glossary/index and a small kit of practical training aids. It is available from late July 2003. The training material, Training in Preservation Microfilming, written by Heather Brown, Preservation Manager at the State Library of South Australia, is the result of a IFLA PAC survey on microfilming training needs in the South East Asia and Pacific region conducted in 2001.
The training resources have been written to conform to the accredited Australian preservation microfilming curriculum, and when delivered by an accredited agency, may be used for formal qualifications or to recognize current competencies. The resources could also be used as a guide to microfilming basics for those not wishing to undertake formal training.
The resource allows for flexible learning and is adaptable to a wide range of delivery methods. The materials include simple step-by-step instructions and charts as well as more detailed sections that explain the principles which enable users to make informed decisions in contexts which may differ from the ideal. Also provided are some basic tools for information sharing - useful contacts and a list of libraries and organizations in the Asia/Pacific region.
The training materials were primarily developed for use in the Asia Pacific region and are in English.
The material is also available on several formats.
CD-ROM
Copies of the training materials will also be available on CD. Please email the PADI administrator padi@nla.gov.au with your details.
Two PDF versions of the training material are available for viewing/downloading below. Low resolution versions are provided for slow internet connections/screen viewing and a high resolution version is provided for fast internet connections/high resolution printing.
A ZIPPed version of the full training package is also available for downloading in both formats. Please note that these files are large and may take some time to download depending on your internet connection speed.
