Endeavour:
Captain Cook's Journal 1768-71 Jointly published by the National Library of Australia and the Australian National Maritime Museum This item is OUT OF PRINT Not Windows 2000 compatible In 1768 Lieutenant James Cook set off on a most extraordinary voyage of discovery. As captain of the Endeavour he led the first expedition to officially combine military and scientific objectives, setting a precedent for other voyages to follow. During the journey Cook kept a diary of 'remarkable occurrences', now held by the National Library of Australia and one of its most famous and important manuscripts. For the first time, a digital facsimile of this manuscript is available on CD-ROM, published jointly by the National Library of Australia and the Australian National Maritime Museum. A full transcript of the journal, based on J.C. Beaglehole's The Journals of Captain James Cook: The Voyage of the Endeavour, is included, while a comprehensive index and footnotes help to locate and interpret information. In addition to the journal, the CD-ROM features supplementary sections-The Mission, The People, The Discoveries, The Ship and The Voyage. The subject matter covered is vast, ranging from the crew's daily routine onboard the Endeavour to Aboriginal land management. Also included is information on the historical events surrounding and resulting from the voyage, and Cook's response to various incidents. This CD-ROM gives you the chance to view the artwork produced on board, and the original botanical and zoological specimens. You can even 'walk through' the Endeavour Replica to see what it was really like living with 93 other people on board a ship less than 32 metres long! The journal itself, and the stories of places and people visited by the Endeavour, are supported by a variety of media such as media, sound and virtual reality technology. A preview of the CD-ROM is available here ISBN 0
