Developing an ANB-type output from Kinetica

Since the cessation of the printed ANB in 1996, monthly files of Recent Australian Publications have been made available on the National Library’s ftp server (ftp://ftp.nla.gov.au/pub/anb)

The March 1999 files were the first to be produced from Kinetica, and although the search process is being refined, the production process was very smooth. At present, the MARC output from Kinetica is put through a PC-based process to produce a classified list (along the lines of ANB), and other records (those lacking a Dewey classification) are put into a separate file which is sorted in main entry order. In the case of March 1999, the two files are called mar99cla (classified list) and mar99alp (main-entry order list).

Further work on the presentation and delivery of an ANB-style product from Kinetica is proceeding but, until this work is complete, the files will continue to be made available on the ftp server. At any time the last three months of files are available.
