Palm Island

In April of this year, Gwenda Davey, the project manager for the National Library’s Bringing Them Home Oral History Pilot Project, visited Palm Island and Townsville, accompanied by project assistant, Francine George.

Palm Island is one of the locations where the Library’s Bringing Them Home project aims to conduct a major community interviewing program.

More than 40 different tribal groups are represented on the island, and all families have been affected by the policies of previous Australian Governments to separate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families.

Three prospective Indigenous interviewers, including one from Palm Island, attended a two-day training course at the National Library in June.
