New Director of Reader Services

Roxanne Missngham

Roxanne Missingham, Director, Reader Services

Roxanne Missingham, well known in the ACT region for her professional dynamism, has returned to the National Library after an absence of 19 years. She has been appointed Director, Reader Services, as a successor to Averill Edwards who retired in January.

Roxanne has worked in a number of libraries in Canberra—including those at Parliament, the Australian Nature Conservation Agency, the Department of the Environment, Sport and Territories and the Department of Human Resources and Health. From 1995 until her return to the National Library, she was Divisional Librarian at CSIRO Wildlife and Ecology.

Roxanne is the incumbent president of the ACT branch of the Australian Library and Information Association. She has contributed a substantial number of articles and reviews to Australian library journals, was a guest lecturer at both the University of Canberra and the Canberra Institute of Technology between 1995 and 1998, and is an enthusiastic speaker at professional conferences.

She is currently in the United States visiting a number of significant American libraries to see how they are handling electronic documents. During the five-week study tour, Roxanne will also spend time at the Smithsonian Institute and participate in the Fourth Digital Libraries Conference at Berkeley, which should give her an excellent overview of contemporary electronic developments.
