Warren Horton retires

A portrait of Warren Hortonlegs crossed, wearing a pin-striped suit and his familiar gazewas unveiled by former prime minister Gough Whitlam and the Minister for Communications, Technology and the Arts, Peter McGauran, at a formal dinner for 90 guests held in the Librarys foyer on 16 July. The portrait, by Sydney artist Jenny Sages, will become part of the Librarys Pictorial Collection. After a series of farewells that stretched across the country, Mr Horton retired as Director-General of the National Library on 27 July. He professes no desire to evaluate his career but he will leave a lasting material legacydetails of which will be publicly announced at a later dateto Australias premier library.
