New faces on the National Library Council

Three new members with business and management skills were appointed to the National Library Council in July for three-year terms. They are Donald
Bourke, Chairman of the Australian Technology Group, Winnie Pelz, a management consultant who is also a Board Member of the National Australia Day Council and Norman McCann, a non-executive director of Jones Lang LaSalle Australia Pty Ltd, Family Business Australia Lt and Australian Services Network Ltd. Mr McCann is also a member of the IT&T Committee of the Industry Research and Development Board.
Two further appointments to the National Library Council were announced in September.
Mr Martin Ferguson, AM, MP has been appointed by the House of Representatives for a three-year term effective from 12 August 1999. He is the member for Batman (Vic) and the Opposition spokeman for transport and the bush. Prior to entering Federal Parliament, Mr Ferguson had extensive experience in the trade union movement as vice-president (198590) and president of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (199096).
Mr Peter McGauran, Minister for the Arts and the Centenary of Federation, recently announced the appointment of Susan Bambrick to Council for a three-year term effective from 25th August.
At the time of the announcement, Mr McGauran said, The appointment of Professor Susan Bambrick OBE will bring extensive academic experience to the Council of the National Library of Australia. Professor Bambricks impressive career spans more than 30 years and she will be a great asset to the Council.
Professor Bambrick is currently the deputy vice-chancellor (academic) at the University of Southern Queensland and has also served as the director of the University of New England, Coffs Harbour Centre and as pro vice-chancellor of La Trobe University.
Professor Bambrick was editor of The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Australia (1994) and has written extensively on education, minerals and resources policy, and industry economics. She is also a member of the Queensland Department of the Premier and Cabinet Multicultural Affairs Working Party on Community Relations.
