Copyright adviser leaves
Annabelle Herd, until recently copyright adviser to the Australian Libraries Copyright Committee, has left the National Library to take up a position as adviser to the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Richard Alston. Her new position will involve the provision of advice on information economy issues (including copyright).
Annabelle began work with the Australian Council of Libraries and Information Services as their copyright research officer in 1996. Following the demise of ACLIS, she became the copyright adviser (law and policy) of the Australian Libraries Copyright Committee. In both positions she has been a tireless advocate for the rights of libraries and consumers in the copyright debate, speaking nationally and internationally on the topic, and managing an email list on copyright for libraries. In 1998 Annabelle participated in the establishment of the Australian Digital Alliance to further the interests of copyright users.
Annabelles expertise and acuity will be missed by the library
community, which has enjoyed a close working relationship with her.
