On 4 November Kieran Ots became Interface Designer of the Year 1999 for his work on the National Librarys CD-ROM publication Endeavour: Captain Cooks Journal 1768-71. The awards have been presented for the past five years by the Australian Interactive Multimedia Association (AIMIA) and are considered the most prestigious among Australian multimedia developers. From a very competitive field of over 300 applicants, the Endeavour CD-ROM was a finalist in three categories. According to Lynne Spender, Director of AIMIA, our wonderful product was unfortunately just pipped at the post by Stagestruck (NIDA/University of Wollongong) in the Best Arts/Cultural Title or Site, and by James Hallidays Wine Reference Guide in Best Reference or Information Title or Site. Interface Designer of the Year was one of the top awards presented during the ceremony. AIMIA recognised the overall design quality of the Endeavour CD-ROM. That is, not only how the publication looks, but also how it has been structured for comprehensibility, access and interactivity. After the initial shock of receiving an award declaring him the best Australian Multimedia Designer of 1999, 23-year-old Ots was asked how he felt about his work with the National Librarys Multimedia Unit being so highly commended. His responseThis definitely makes all the weekend hours worth it. Im stoked! |
