Tim Winton among Friends
A crowd of nearly 400 National Library Friends and fans of noted Australian writer Tim Winton gathered at the Library on Sunday 7 November to honour him.
Casually dressed and as affable as always despite his expressed disappointment with the results of the Republic Referendum of the previous day, Tim responded to the tribute of ACT publisher and fellow Westralian Ian Templeman before signing dozens of copies of Tim Winton: A Celebration. The book was compiled and edited by Hilary McPhee especially for the occasion and contains essays by Helen Garner, Martin Flanagan, Michael McGirr and Ms McPhee.
As an affirmation of his special ability to communicate with children, five young members of the audience read from some of Tims booksLands Edge, Lockie LeonardHuman Torpedo, The Deep and Blueback.
