Follow that sun!
|
John Morse, Managing Director of the Australian Tourist Commission, stepped back into a more relaxed past on 12 November when he opened the National Librarys summer exhibition Follow the Sun: Australian Travel Posters 1930s1950s. Three of the exhibits found real life counterparts in performance artists Living Statues, while a string quartet entertained the audience with swing music from the era. Guests included members of the artists families, professionals from the tourism industry, Friends of the National Library and staff from other cultural institutions. Hit of the evening was Domino, the prop that travelled to the opening by horse float, a vehicle not usually found at the foot of the Librarys steps. This colourful, interesting and evocative exhibition of 80 posters will remain open throughout Y2K madness until 30 January. |
