New Deputy Director-General
David Toll, the National Library of Australia's new Deputy Director-General
David Toll has been appointed Deputy Director-General of the National Library of Australia. He first joined the National Library in 1982 after completing a Graduate Diploma in Librarianship from the University of New South Wales, and has interspersed his Library career with periods at several other Commonwealth government departments, including the Department of Finance and the Department of Health, Housing, Local Government and Community Services. He recently returned to the National Library after a period heading ScreenSound Australia.
Prior to taking the position as Deputy Director-General, David was Head of Corporate Services at the Library, managing human resources, finance, facilities and information technology. He has managed the Librarys response to Government reform in a range of areas including competitive tendering and contracting, rapid development in information technology, implementation of the accrual budgeting framework and implementation of industrial relations reforms. Prior to this, David also managed technical service functions, reference services and special collections at the Library.
David has extensive knowledge and experience of libraries and library systems, and will be particularly involved in the National Librarys activities relating to improving information infrastructure in Australia.
