New readers’ guides available

Two new subject guides to the National Library’s collections have been made available on the Library’s web site.

The Aged in Australia: A Research Guide and Select Bibliography of Australian Publications, compiled by Roy Jordan, is the National Library’s contribution to the United Nations’ International Year of Older Persons. As a legal deposit library, the National Library has an outstanding collection of Australian material relating to older persons. The bibliography lists the Library’s holdings of works of at least 100 pages published in Australia after 1945 on the subject of the aged and on the related areas of gerontology and geriatrics. It includes a research guide to assist people in locating basic information about the aged and to find their way round the research libraries that house the vast literature published on this topic. The bibliography should be an invaluable tool for researchers, students and librarians.

The Select Bibliography of Material in the National Library of Australia Relating to Jewish Life in Australia, compiled by Roxanne Missingham, contains references to manuscript, oral history, music and pictorial materials. It also lists journals, newspapers, books and web links, and has an extensive bibliography on Judah Waten.

Both guides enable easy access to a wide range of materials in the National Library’s rich collection, and can be found on the Library’s web site (http://www.nla.gov.au/guides/guides.html).
